Lahi

Fakamatalaga puupuu

A chair at a dressing table is nearly always too big. It has a back you never lean on and arms that hit the drawers, and it stands there all day drawing attention.

This is as much furniture as the job needs. It slides completely under the table, and the room is a room again.

Tauhiga

Vacuum the weave on a low setting. Blot spills and never rub them in.

Where the strength lies

Each leg is a folded rod and not a single strutThe legs splay wider than the seat above

What the number really means

The weight rating

It is the rated static capacity, and it is why we were willing to stock something that looks so slight: thin brass legs on a small seat usually mean a stool you sit on with care.

Take the rating as assurance for normal sitting and not as a guarantee against sitting down hard. A sudden drop puts many times your body weight through four small feet in an instant, so lower yourself onto it as you would onto any stool this size.

Open, which has two sides

The weave

The yarn is thick and loosely woven into a visible grid, which is why the surface keeps its depth in low light where a smooth upholstery fabric would go flat.

The trade-off is that an open weave gives things somewhere to go. Loose glitter, cat claws and anything sticky find the gaps. Chalk shows dust and Ink shows lint, so choose which you mind less.

A table that is also a seat

Its second job

The seat is flat and its height is close to that of a mattress, so next to a bed it takes a book, a glass and a lamp cable, though it was never sold as a nightstand.

It is also what you carry to wherever an extra seat is needed: light enough to move with one hand, and it does not look out of place if it stays.

It genuinely goes under

My last one stuck out by about ten centimetres and I caught my hip on it every single morning. This one disappears completely under the table. Small thing. Changed the room more than the stool cost.

Assembly is four screws

Legs came off, went on in about three minutes with the little key. Do them up properly and go round again after a fortnight. Mine loosened slightly and I only noticed because of a faint click.

Smaller than I pictured, correctly

The measurements are on the page so this is on me, but I still had a bigger thing in my head. It is a perch for one person, not somewhere two children will sit together. Read the numbers, they are accurate.

Is it comfortable for sitting a long time?
It is comfortable for the fifteen minutes a dressing table calls for. For an hour at a desk it is less so, because it has no back and the padding is more a cushion than a seat.
Are the legs made of solid brass?
They are metal with a brass finish and not solid brass, and we prefer to say so plainly than to let the photographs suggest otherwise. The finish is warm and matte, not mirror-bright.
Could it mark a wooden floor?
Each foot has a dark protective tip. Four small points still carry a lot of load, so lift it and do not drag it over floorboards.
What is the fabric made from?
A synthetic upholstery yarn. We have no verified fibre breakdown, so we describe how it looks and feels, chunky, matte and slightly slubby, and do not name anything we cannot stand behind.
Is it safe to stand on to reach a shelf?
It is made as a seat and not as a step. Standing puts your whole weight on one small area of a slim base, so use a step stool to reach shelves.
