The floor in front of your sink takes splashes, drips, coffee and cooking splatter all day, and it should dry itself before you have even found a towel. This kitchen mat does exactly that, with a slim diatomite core that pulls water out of sight in seconds. A wipe-clean soft-leather surface sits on a non-slip rubber base, and there is enough cushion to stand on comfortably through a long cook.

Finished with a curved-line motif in warm greige, it suits a calm kitchen and keeps the splash zone quietly handled.

Every kitchen has a zone in front of the sink and hob where water, coffee and cooking oil reach the floor however careful you are. A fabric mat holds the mess, and Slate™ gets rid of it. Under the soft, wipeable surface is a layer of diatomite, the porous mineral used in fast-drying bath stones, which draws a splash through the knitted top and dries it in about ten seconds. The surface stays dry underfoot and wipes clean with a cloth, and the breathable rubber base keeps the mat where the splashes fall. It is slim enough for the dishwasher door to pass over.

Tauhiga

Wipe with a damp cloth for daily cleaning, and rinse and air dry for a deeper clean. It needs no machine washing, because the surface is sealed against stains. Keep it away from open flames and sharp blades.

The splash zone dealt with

Water, coffee and cooking splashes all land on the floor in front of the sink, and Slate™ dries them before you have found a towel.

Mineral-fast drying

A porous diatomite layer draws liquid off the surface and releases it as vapour, so the mat is dry to the touch in about ten seconds.

Stone™ Quick-Dry Kitchen Mat — diatomite core dries in seconds, wipe-clean surface, non-slip base

Why Stone

A surface that wipes clean, a diatomite core that dries in seconds and a rubber base that grips: four sizes to keep the busiest floor in the house dry.

Watched a spill disappear

Knocked a glass of water over on day one. By the time I'd grabbed a towel, the mat had already drunk it — surface dry, nothing to mop. I've stopped reaching for the towel.

Finally a mat that doesn't smell

Our old fabric runner was permanently damp by the sink and started to smell. This one is dry every time I touch it, and a wipe with the dishcloth is the whole cleaning routine.

Dishwasher door clears it

The 120 runner sits between the island and the sink. It's thin enough that the dishwasher door opens right over it, and it has not crept a centimetre on our tiles.

How does it differ from an ordinary kitchen mat?

A fabric mat soaks up spills and stays damp. Slate™ lets liquid pass through its surface into a layer of diatomite mineral that dries in seconds, so the surface you stand on stays dry.

Is it comfortable underfoot?

The knitted PU surface feels soft and slightly cushioned: firmer than a plush rug, gentler than bare tile, and warm to stand on.

He a te tausiga e manakomia?

Wipe it with a damp cloth, and that is all the daily care it needs. For a deeper clean, rinse it and stand it up to dry in the air. It never needs the washing machine.

Will it slide or trip me up?

The full rubber base grips tile, stone and wood, and the low profile sits almost flush with the floor, so doors pass over it and toes do not catch the edges.

Ko te fua fea e tatau ke filifili e au?

Oval 40×60 for the sink alone; 45×75 for the sink or the hob; 45×120 to reach from sink to hob; 45×180 to run the whole length of a galley kitchen or an island.

Does it work in a bathroom or an entryway?

Yes, anywhere water lands on the floor: stepping out of the bath, under a pet's bowl, by the coffee machine or at the door on a rainy day.
