Ave Fua I Aho e 4–7

Your table stays dry no matter how cold the drink. These travertine coasters are cut from natural stone whose open pores draw condensation off a glass and hold it, so moisture never reaches the wood beneath. Two-million-year-old material doing one quietly vital job, set out in a simple silhouette that belongs on a calm table.

Each coaster earns its keep with no fuss. Just set the glass down and let the stone work.

  • Open-pored natural travertine pulls sweat off the glass
  • Condensation held inside the stone, away from your tabletop
  • Two-million-year-old natural material, cut and finished simply
  • Protects wood and linen with no effort from you

Fakamatalaga puupuu

Every wooden table shows the marks of cold glasses, pale rings that never quite polish out. Tufa™ stops the next ring before it forms. Each coaster is a slab of natural travertine, the pitted limestone the Romans built with, cut thick and honed smooth. The stone is porous by nature, so condensation soaks into the surface and does not pool under the glass. Nothing sweats onto the table, and the coaster never sticks to the bottom of your cup. Stacked as a set of four they look like a small sculpture, and in use they quietly protect the table.

Tauhiga

Wipe with a damp cloth and leave to air dry. Do not soak them, and keep harsh cleaners and acids such as citrus and vinegar away, because travertine is natural limestone. A drop of stone sealer once a year helps it resist stains.

Mea na Faia Ai

Natural cream travertine with a honed finish and the stone's original pores left open, which is what lets it absorb condensation. Cork-dot feet protect the table underneath. Each piece has its own fossil-flecked grain.

A quiet guard for your table

Cold glasses sweat, and Tufa™ soaks it up. The open pores of the stone draw condensation in before it can run onto the wood beneath.

Cut from real layered stone

Travertine builds up in mineral springs over thousands of years, so every pit and fleck in these coasters is geology and not decoration.

Strata™ Travertine Coaster Set — solid natural travertine, drinks drips no rings, set of four

Why Strata

Stone that absorbs where ceramic sweats, weight that stays down when you lift the glass, and cork feet that protect the finish: a set of four worth its place on the table.

They actually absorb the sweat

Iced coffee in July is my table's worst enemy. You can watch the ring of condensation just disappear into the stone. Nothing reaches the walnut underneath.

Guests pick them up

The hexagons stack into a little column on the coffee table and every single guest picks one up and turns it over. The pitting makes each one different — mine has a tiny fossil shell in it.

No more coaster stuck to the glass

The thing I hated about our old ceramic set — lifting the glass and the coaster clattering down after it — just doesn't happen. The stone is heavy and the surface stays dry.

Do they work under hot mugs as well?
Yes. Travertine copes with hot mugs and teapots as easily as with cold glasses. It is stone, and heat does not mark it.
Will they scratch the table?
No. Small cork feet under each coaster keep the stone off your tabletop.
What if red wine is spilled on one?
Blot it quickly and rinse with plain water; the honed surface lets go of most marks. With heavy use, wiping on stone sealer once a year keeps the pores resistant to stains.
Are the four coasters in a set the same?
The shape and size match, but the grain, pitting and fossil flecks are different on each piece, because this is quarried stone and not a printed pattern.
What size is each coaster?
About 10 cm across, which leaves room for oversized mugs, wine glasses and tumblers, and cut thick enough to feel solid in the hand.
Which shape should I pick?
Circles look softest on round and oak tables, hexagons make the neatest stack, and squares suit clean-lined and marble surfaces. The stone and the function are the same, so choose by your table.
